Year 4

Year Four

The students’ challenge this year was to come up with a product, service or experience that would contribute to their own or a target users happiness.

Working in teams, the students participated in two 3-day blocks at LYIT and other locations as well as working on the project in their home schools. The responses were incredible and show fantastic empathy and ingenuity. Congratulations to all out Academicians.

Day 5

Day 6 kicked off with DICE Conference a fantastic line up of speakers from the creative industry, presenting to the DICE_TY participants, staff and students at LYIT. Presenters included recent LYIT graduates Kim Sharkey and Niamh Porter, fashion and enterprise expert Eddie Shanahan, international award winning animator and art director Johnny Kelly and Donegal’s own Paul McMahon of Rusted Pixel. The afternoon saw the culmination of the DICE_TY students’ hardwork in the form of an exhibition and prize giving ceremony. The judges were extremely impressed by the level of creativity and innovation in the insightful solutions presented. A fantastic end to the incredible work of all the students, teachers, facilitators and staff involved in the programme.

Day 4

The Regional Cultural Centre was the site of much fun and music on Day 5. Three leading precussion musicians lead workshops in drums, bodhran and African drums, culminating with a 100 strong precussion performance!

Day 3

In March the students commenced their second block of activities at LYIT. On day 4 they got stuck in making quick prototypes to present and impression of their ideas. That afternoon a selection of target users were invited onto campus to review the ideas and quick prototypes and give feedback.

Day 2

Day three was all about idea development and learning novel ways to come up with unique ideas. Participants were immersed in stories, tapped into the senses and played with words and chance in a series of workshops.

They also learned about the next stage of the programme – prototyping.

Day 1

Time for some teambuilding and inspiration. Day 2 took place at Gartan Outdoor Education & Training Centre, we knew we had a fantastic group this year by the enthusiasm and determination them showed in all the activities they undertook in dismil weather conditions. The afternoon session thankfully was indoors and a highlight of the who programme with a line up of information and motivating speakers.
